Quartz glass components for all common types of UV lamps
GVB GmbH – Solutions in Glass develops and processes high-purity fused silica specifically for applications in water sterilization and industrial UV lamps. We offer doped materials and lamp tubes, durable sleeves, as well as tubes and plates for all UV applications in water treatment, filtration, and sterilization technology.
The germicidal effect of UV radiation occurs in the UV-C range between 200 and 280 nm. It is precisely in this wavelength range that quartz glass demonstrates its key advantages over other materials and determines how much UV radiation is effective.
Doped quartz glass materials (Ti, Ce)
Our doped materials made from fused quartz glass are suitable for applications requiring high light emission, as well as those involving extreme temperatures and chemical exposure.
Enriched with elements such as titanium, our EN09 lamp tubes deliver optimized performance in specialized lighting applications. They are used in low-, medium-, and high-pressure lamps and are available in undoped versions as well as with UV-blocking (Ce) or ozone-free (Ti) doping. Thanks to their long service life, they are ideal for UV, halogen, and high-energy lighting systems.
Quartz glass sleeves
Thanks to their high purity and heat resistance, our quartz glass sleeves are ideal for use in UV lamps. There, they provide reliable protection for components in water treatment and disinfection systems.
They are used in UVC devices, such as UVC clarifiers, to prevent contact between water and electrically conductive materials. Thanks to their high purity, our EN09 quartz tubes offer excellent transmission in the UV range (200–280 nm) and effectively help eliminate algae and other microorganisms in ponds.
Quartz glass tubes for all standard UV lamps
Our quartz glass tubes are characterized by their thermal stability and optical clarity and are ideal for all UV applications in water treatment.
The hydroxyl content can be reduced to as low as 2 ppm, which is important for applications using medium- and high-pressure sprayers. We also offer standard EN09 tubing in diameters ranging from Ø 4 mm to Ø 100 mm, with a standard length of 1500 mm. Custom lengths are also available upon request.
Quartz glass plates EN08, FN08, FS03
Our quartz glass plates offer excellent optical clarity and thermal and chemical resistance, and are also used for UV applications in water treatment.
GVB offers a selection of quartz glass plates in various sizes and types. These include plates made of natural quartz glass (EN08, FN08) as well as synthetic variants (FS03), which are characterized by different transmission properties while maintaining consistently high purity.
Functional Coatings
We offer custom functional coatings for our quartz glass solutions. These coatings allow for precise control of UV transmission and can be tailored to specific wavelengths and operating conditions. This helps improve the efficiency, stability, and service life of UV systems, particularly in water treatment and industrial UV technology applications.

Yttrium coating (254 nm) for standard UVC disinfection
Functional coatings on our quartz glass lamp tubes enable targeted optimization of UV transmission and extend the service life of UV lamps. Our yttrium coating is specifically designed for 254-nm emitters and is particularly well-suited for traditional UVC disinfection applications.

Al₂O₃ coating (185 nm) for ozone generation and indirect disinfection
We offer coating solutions for our quartz glass lamps, including for UV applications involving oxidative processes. Our Al₂O₃ coating is designed for 185-nm emitters and supports ozone generation. It is often used in oxidative processes as well as for the indirect application of ozone’s disinfecting effect.

- Measurement and analysis applications: Our quartz glass components for UV lamps are also used in UV photometers and spectroscopic systems for determining concentrations, as well as in the monitoring of drinking water and ultrapure water.
- Low-pressure UV lamps operate primarily at 254 nm and provide a very high level of disinfection. They are used in drinking water treatment, swimming pools, aquariums, and pond filters, as well as in the food and beverage industry. They are also suitable for air and surface disinfection.
- Amalgam UV lamps represent a further development of low-pressure technology and also provide efficient radiation at 254 nm, but are designed for larger systems. Typical applications include municipal water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, large process water systems, and ballast water treatment systems (maritime).
- Medium-pressure UV lamps emit a broad UV spectrum ranging from 200 to 400 nm and achieve high power density at elevated operating temperatures. They are used for treating wastewater containing complex microorganisms, breaking down micropollutants, and in UV oxidation and AOP systems.
